The best restaurants in the Comox Valley

  October 4, 2016   Melissa Berrigan

Welcome to the Valley – I hope you brought your appetite!

Okay, so if home is where the heart is, and the way to a person’s heart is through their stomach, then I guess home is where the stomach is . . . (Hmmm, maybe there’s a reason that isn’t a saying.)

What I’m really trying to say is, the Comox Valley has some amazing restaurants. And when you call the Valley home, you’ll find there is something to suit every taste. In fact, with more than 80 eateries throughout the region, deciding where to dine can be just as hard as deciding what to dine upon!

To help you out, here are some ideas (and a few of my favourites) to ensure your taste buds are not only tempted but also satisfied.

Eating local is just part of what we do

Living in “the land of plenty” means that eating locally isn’t really much of a challenge; in fact, it’s almost a way of life. From fresh seafood and veggies to award-winning cheeses and liquid libations, many Valley eateries feature menu items from our local producers. The most notable restaurant in this regard is, in fact, called Locals. Dedicated to providing a quality dining experience through strong connections with food producers from around the Comox Valley, they’re known for offering mouth-watering quality dishes with excellent service.

That being said, visit the local Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning and you’ll see chefs from Martine’s Bistro and The White Whale (among others) packing armloads of goods that are destined to become someone’s soup du jour or evening “special.”

Of course, sometimes you just get a hankering for something exotic

Looking for Japanese, German, Italian, Thai, Indian, Greek, Chinese or Mexican? Not a problem. In the Valley, there are numerous options for food “from away” close to home. For great authentic taste, good service and affordability, Manvirro’s Indian Grill and Kinaree Thai both top my list.

However, if you’re trying to satisfy the different cravings of a few family members, the globally inspired menu at the Atlas Café offers the perfect solution. Located in the heart of Downtown Courtenay, the Atlas has a reputation for excellent service and award-winning food that the whole gang will enjoy.

Other Comox Valley restaurants that get raves

Speaking of family enjoyment, be sure to check out the Union Street Grill & Grotto. Not only do they have a good kids’ menu, they offer extensive gluten-free options. Not sure that you want a whole sit-down meal? Check out the Grotto portion of the restaurant for tapas in a casual atmosphere.

So, where are you eating tonight?
