With five easy and inexpensive home improvements

First impressions matter. This is especially true when you want to sell your home.

Curb appeal will make your house desirable and get potential buyers excited to see what’s inside. While there are dozens of small, inexpensive home improvements that can be done to spice up your home's curb appeal, here are five easy enhancements that don’t require much time or money.

Paint the front door

Painting the front door will revive the overall look of your house. It’s your choice to stay neutral or make a bold statement with colour. Either way, the door should be properly prepared for fresh paint and the colour should match your home’s exterior finish.

Replace exterior light fixtures

When buying new exterior light fixtures, consider the style of your home and the function of the lights. You will save yourself some time if you choose fixtures that have the same mounting system as the current ones.

Illuminated walking paths will make a huge impact on your home’s exterior appeal. Accent lighting also provides extra safety and security. Keep in mind that solar fixtures are not as bright or reliable as fixtures that require wiring, but they do require much less work to install.

Install new house numbers

If your home has old or faded house numbers, swap them out for new ones. Try to match the new house numbers with your exterior light fixtures for cohesion, and to enhance the overall look from the curb.

Go floral

If your house is lacking color, the addition of flowers will make your house pop.

Add colourful seasonal flowers and plants to your existing beds for a really quick fix. Installing window boxes below the windows or on the front porch railings will really create some magic. You could also place potted flowers on your porch and/or front steps.

Keep in mind that you need to maintain the flowers to actually add curb appeal to your home!

Love your landscape

Give your front yard a serious cleanup to help make a solid first impression. Mow the lawn and trim those trees and hedges. Get your garden beds into shape by pruning growth, pulling weeds, and adding fresh mulch. If the borders are dirty, tired-looking, or have dislodged pieces, consider cleaning and replacing or resetting pieces for an easy upgrade.

It’s also a good idea to clean windows and gutters, and to power wash the siding, the driveway, and all walkways.
